ICE SKATING PROGRAMS
We offer a variety of programs for skaters who are interested in figure skating, hockey, or both! No matter which pathway interests you, a skater’s journey begins with the Learn to Skate program. Classes are grouped based on age and ability level (we even have teen/adult classes for beginners).
After a student graduates from Learn to Skate, those interested in the figure skating pathway will begin our Aspire program, a bridge program designed to help skaters progress into becoming full members of U.S. Figure Skating! We are currently the only U.S. Figure Skating program in the area and the home skating rink for the Knoxville Figure Skating Club (KFSC). Those interested in the hockey pathway can check our large variety of hockey programs.
We can’t wait to watch you begin your skating career. For further information or for assistance with deciding the best skating path for you, contact Lucie Krausova, at [email protected].
GETTING STARTED
LEARN TO SKATE USA
Cool Sports is proud to host this program for skaters of all ages and skating levels, knowing that skating skills are the essential common key for participants of all ice sports.
Group classes are divided by age & skating ability, and are offered for ages 3–5 (Snowplow Sam), ages 6–12 (Basics), and ages 13 & older (Teen / Adult). All classes include 30 minute lesson and skate rental. During the final week of the session (not during summer mini sessions) skaters are able bring one buddy so they can skate too!
BEGINNER
ASPIRE
Aspire is specifically for those skaters who are in Pre-Free Skate to Free Skate levels 1-6! It’s also open to Adult Skaters!
The Aspire program teaches athletes the skills they need to make the most out of their figure skating journey.
Skaters in Pre-Free Skate through FS 6 practice two days per week for the duration of the 8-week session.
FREESTYLE
ADVANCED
After Aspire, Cool Sports figure skaters bridge into the U.S. Figure Skating testing structure. Skaters at this level often take private lessons with a dedicated coach and practice during freestyle sessions.
Guest skaters and coaches are welcomed to skate at Cool Sports. Skaters will need to have a copy of their USFS, ISI or USA Hockey membership card, which can be kept on file.
TEEN & ADULT OPPORTUNITIES
ADULT SKATING
If you’ve always wanted to learn how to ice skate, we have group classes or private lessons just for you!
Cool Sports offers an adult program designed for teens and adults who are beginning skaters.
Group skating classes are offered for beginner to intermediate level teen and adult skaters in the Teen/Adult 1 – 6 programs.
YOU CAN COMPETE!
COMPETITIONS
ALL skaters at Cool Sports can compete, whether you are a beginner or advanced! Skaters may choose to compete in a solo program to music, with a friend in a duet, or even in a small group. If you are interested in competing, a coach can help you guide you along the way, from creating a program to registering to compete.
Once you decide to compete, there are many options and locations available to you. We briefly go over some of the more popular series pathways for Cool Sports skaters below, and you can read more in-depth about these pathways at USFS Online.
